At-Home Face Shaving (Dermaplaning)
Dangerous for Skin Barrier
The Viral Claim
"Shaving your entire face with a single-blade razor removes 'peach fuzz' and dead skin, preventing acne and making you glow."
Why it exploded on TikTok
The immediate 'glass skin' effect of removing vellus hair looks incredible on camera, leading teens to believe it represents deep exfoliation.
Medical Expert Review
Clinical dermaplaning is excellent for healthy skin, but doing it at home over active acne is disastrous. Running a sharp blade over raised, infected pustules physically decapitates the pimples. This violently spreads millions of P. acnes bacteria across the entire freshly-exfoliated face, leading to a catastrophic wave of new breakouts in areas that were previously clear. It also introduces microscopic nicks that invite staph infections.
Safe Alternatives
Don't risk destroying your skin barrier. Instead of at-home face shaving (dermaplaning), utilize these clinically-proven, teen-safe alternatives.
