Raw Potato Slices for Scars

Final Verdict
Scam

Ineffective Scam

The Viral Claim

"Taping raw potato slices to your acne scars will fade them overnight due to the natural lightening enzyme catecholase."

Why it exploded on TikTok

Zero-cost, DIY pantry hacks frequently go viral because they promise miraculous results without requiring teenagers to buy expensive serums.

Medical Expert Review

While potatoes do contain an enzyme called catecholase that technically plays a role in plant pigmentation, rubbing raw starch onto human skin does absolutely nothing to penetrate the epidermis or alter human melanin production. Raw potato starch simply dries into a tight, flaky film on the skin, giving the temporary physical illusion of 'tightness.' It will not fade post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) or acne scars in any clinical capacity.

Safe Alternatives

Don't risk destroying your skin barrier. Instead of raw potato slices for scars, utilize these clinically-proven, teen-safe alternatives.
