Slugging with Vaseline
Mixed / Proceed with Caution
The Viral Claim
"Coating your face in a thick layer of Vaseline overnight ('slugging') traps moisture, heals the barrier, and prevents acne."
Why it exploded on TikTok
'Slugging' became a massive K-Beauty trend on TikTok for achieving glassy, intensely hydrated skin overnight by preventing trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL).
Medical Expert Review
Petrolatum (Vaseline) is an incredible occlusive that effectively stops water loss and heals compromised barriers for dry skin types. However, slugging is the absolute worst thing you can do for active teenage acne. Because it forms a 100% impenetrable seal over the skin, it traps excess sebum, dead skin cells, and P. acnes bacteria inside the pore with zero oxygen. This creates the perfect anaerobic breeding ground for massive cystic acne explosions.
Safe Alternatives
Don't risk destroying your skin barrier. Instead of slugging with vaseline, utilize these clinically-proven, teen-safe alternatives.
